Reaping the rewards…
At last it seems that the hard work and time i have put into the plants in the garden is starting to pay off, with a nice display of flowers.
I decided to collect some seeds from plants last year and sowed them in mini-greenhouses. The Polyanthus i sowed in little pots sprouted last autumn and virtually everyone germinated. They looked pretty unimpressive until about February this year when they grew large healthy looking, deep green leaves. The bright yellow flowers look amazing in the sunshine. There was some variation in the shades of yellow they produced and i intend to take seeds from these and sow them this year to see how different they become.

Snake’s-Head Fritillary are one of my favourite bulbs. I had never head of them until last spring when i saw some in a nearby garden centre. They were impressive at the time, but have come up even better this year. I presume that they build up their energy last summer.

I would like to be able to plant some on the allotment next year to naturalise…

…and I’ll probably take a photo or two.
