Summer Days
Every day, more and more flowers open up and the plants get bushier and taller. The glorious hot weather, combined with my generous watering has been good for the plants in pots. The top picture are Helenium flowers from a plant I bought last autumn. I love these bright, sharp flowers as each blossom changes colour every few days. Below them are mixed cosmos that I bought as plug plants. I sowed three sets of cosmos seeds this spring and none of them survived. I suspect I over-watered them. Under these are the flowers of Verbena Bonariensis, plants that I sowed last year. They are drought-tolerant, but even they are showing signs of wilting this year. Then we have Lavatera ‘Barnsley Baby’ that is a shrub i bought for £4 in the sales last year. Unfortunately it’s named after Barnsley in Gloucestershire and not the South Yorkshire one. Finally we have the Lilies I bought last year, that have put on a great display this year. They have needed a bit of monitoring as the red Lily beetles keep finding it.
